Free Body Diagrams

Wed. Nov. 16 and Thurs. Nov. 17

Students learned how to draw free-body diagrams today. This is a very important tool for physicists to analyze complex situations. Students should have the following documents filled out:

Force Chart

Interaction diagrams for 4 scenarios

We then started practicing making free-body diagrams for different situations: here

You should know the homework by now:

BRING BOTTLES TO MAKE ROCKETS!!

Weekend of May 16-17

Physics Students,
There is no new homework this weekend, but there is a test next week. (See Section Tab for the date.) You might want to be looking through the chapters on the Physics Classroom site (see below) to begin your review of what we have covered this term. You will get a formal review sheet on Mon/Tues, but you can imagine what my answer will be to the question you pose: "What's on the test?"

Answer: "The material we have been studying since the beginning of the quint!"

A good number of you have been gone for various amounts of time during this term. Please know that this does not excuse you from knowing the material we have covered. I do not always insist that you make up assignments, but you are responsible for knowing the material.

Relevant Sections from Physics Classroom site:
Waves: Lesson 1 (a,b,c), Lesson 2 (a,b,d,e), Lesson 4 (all)
Sound Waves and Music: Lesson 1 (a,b), Lesson 2(a,c), Lesson 4 (c,d), Lesson 5 (b,c,d)

Sick Day!

Hello Physics Students:
I am home sick today (Thur. May 7). So you won't be able to finish the Sound Stations Lab until next week. You do need to complete the following assignment according to these due dates:

Section A: Watch a video and respond to me by Sun. May 10 at 6 pm.
Section B: Watch a video and respond to me by Fri. May 8 at 5 pm.
Section D: Watch a video and respond to me by Fri. May 8 at 5 pm.

Assignment: Go to the website Sixty Symbols. Hover over the symbols to see the subject of a physics, math, or astronomy video. Choose any one (or more) to watch. Answer the following questions in an intelligent and detailed manner (demonstrating the intellectual level of a senior in high school, not an 8th grader) in an email to me (nwsphysics99@gmail.com), or in an attachement.

1.  Give a summary (3-5 sentences) of the video. Include the name of the video and a screen capture or description of the symbol so I know which one you watched.
2.  What did you find most interesting?
3.  How well was the subject presented?
4.  What would you do differently if you were going to make a similar video geared toward the general public?

One more note: there will be NO class on Friday, May 8 for Sections B and D.
